Garden View towards theviaduc du Viaur

Why did we decide to give up our comfortable home, expensive cars and foreign holidays to move to rural France? Once you have been to Le Clot we think you will understand. Leaving behind our hectic English lifestyle, we now throw back the shutters on another clear blue sky, eat breakfast outside and enjoy the tranquillity of our new home. See our photo album

We decided to take the plunge early in 2003 and in April we spent a week in France making the final decision on which area we wanted to move to. On that trip, we did not intend buying a house, only to look at various areas, see the types of property available and check out the prices. Needless to say we returned to England having found our dream home. We had seen Le Clot in the rain and in brilliant sunshine and were amazed at its' fantastic location, the garden was full of spring flowers and the view of the Viaduct de Viaur was stunning. It had everything we wanted, a pretty house set in a courtyard, a barn ripe for conversion, plenty of outbuildings that could provide storage, a laundry and potting shed, etc., - and on top of all that, 15 acres of land!

Le Clot is an 18-century country farmhouse that was owned by the same family for over 100 years. We bought the house from 83 year old Madame Serin who had been born in the house. Madame Serin and her husband were very sad at selling the house but it was proving to be too much for them and as their daughter was not interested in renovating the property it had to go.

We eventually sold our house in Aylesbury and took possession of our new home in September 2003. Our first night at the house took an unexpected turn, come and stay and we will tell you the whole story!

Since then we have undertaken a variety of renovation projects, created a lounge from the original 'cave', fitted central heating, re-wired the house, converted the loft, established an organic vegetable garden and built a swimming pool. We have done the majority of the work ourselves, learning new skills as we go along - not bad for two people who worked behind desks in their previous lives!

Our first summer saw a string of family and friends who came to see where we were and to give a hand with the renovations. Everyone agreed that Le Clot is a very special place and most visitors have returned more than once to enjoy the tranquility (and good food!).

Come and stay with us at Le Clot and you will understand why we took the plunge. Watch the sun-rise over the Viaduct de Viaur, enjoy fresh organic food, take a stroll round our land, take a dip in the pool or do nothing but relax, the choice is yours there is never any rush to do anything at Le Clot.
